JD Vance Faces Drag Photo Controversy
Ohio Senator JD Vance (R) remains silent about the newly surfaced drag photos, but former Rep. George Santos has spoken out.
Viral Photo Sparks Debate
On Sunday, an image of Vance in a blonde wig and long dress gained significant attention online. This stark contrast to the GOP’s typical stance on drag and LGBTQ+ rights caught many off guard.
Matt Bernstein ignited the conversation by sharing the striking photos on X. He stated, “New: I have a picture of JD Vance in drag from his time at Yale Law School.”
Confirmation and Reactions
Travis Whitfill confirmed the authenticity of the photos, noting, “This was taken in 2012. A classmate took the photo and sent it to me.”
The reactions poured in. One user remarked, “Here’s JD Vance in drag at Yale Law School. I’m not mocking drag performers, but it’s fascinating how some criticize drag while enjoying it themselves.” Another joked, “Looking cute! Maybe I’ll run for Vice President later.” A third commenter emphasized, “Don’t just call JD Vance weird for wearing drag. Call him out for being a hypocrite and a bigot for attacking others who do drag.”
Support Amid Criticism
Some, like George Santos, defended Vance. The Republican U.S. representative from New York argued that the photos resemble silly college party outfits rather than actual drag, as reported by TMZ.
Santos suggested it’s unfair to label the attire as drag. He explained that many men have worn costumes that blur gender roles at some point in their lives. He also noted that couples often engage in this, with wives dressing as men and husbands as women, which he doesn’t consider true drag.
