Elvis Presley’s Customized Jet: A Symbol of Luxury and Style

Elvis Presley was not just a talented singer with a beautiful voice. He was also known for his impeccable taste and design, especially when it came to his jet. In 1962, Elvis got his own customized jet, a Lockheed Jetstar model, built exactly to his specifications. The interior of the jet was nothing short of extraordinary, with mahogany paneling, plush crimson velvet couches, and luxurious carpeting. The sheer splendor of the design would impress even the most discerning critic.

After Elvis passed away in 1977, his plane sat unused for over three decades before becoming a popular tourist attraction in Roswell, New Mexico. Recently, it was auctioned off in Florida for a staggering $260,000 to a telephone bidder who claimed to be a devoted Elvis enthusiast. The plane, named Lisa Marie after Elvis’s daughter, has become an iconic symbol of the King of Rock’s legacy and his impeccable sense of elegance and style.

When Elvis and his father, Vernon Presley, first took to the sky in their private plane, they must have been overwhelmed with joy and grandeur. No expense was spared to provide the perfect trip experience. Even in the skies, Elvis displayed his incredible talent and attention to detail as a designer. It’s no surprise that his plane has become an emblematic element of his legacy that continues to captivate audiences long after his passing.

Upon entering this unique piece of aviation history, one is immediately struck by the opulent decor. The interior walls are paneled in traditional oak, and the seating is adorned with the most luxurious crimson velvet imaginable. It’s impossible not to envision the King himself lounging in one of these seats, donning his iconic sunglasses, and reveling in the lap of luxury. The seating area is spacious and comfortable, providing ample room for passengers to stretch out during their journey.

Towards the back of the plane, there is a charming kitchen area. Although small, it is equipped with everything one would need for food preparation, including a vintage microwave. One can’t help but imagine Elvis himself preparing one of his famous sandwiches – a unique concoction of peanut butter, mayonnaise, bacon, and banana – and warming it up in the microwave before savoring the mouthwatering delight.

While the aircraft restroom is stunning, one can’t help but think that it could use more elegant elements such as velvet and a more sophisticated sink. Nevertheless, it is a vast improvement compared to the cramped bathrooms found in most charter aircraft. And if you’re lucky, just like me, you might catch a glimpse of Elvis in his best holiday outfit while looking for the restroom, adding an extra touch of magic to the experience.

The auction of Elvis Presley’s jet took place on January 8 at the Mecum Kissimmee Collector Car Auction in Florida, with a winning bid of $260,000. The new owner chose to remain anonymous, making this sale a significant milestone for the aircraft. It’s exciting to think about the future of this iconic piece of music history and where it will go next.
