Heather Foster, once a familiar face on local news, proved she still knows how to command a stage—this time, on Wheel of Fortune. The former news anchor, who left her career to focus on raising her children, walked away with an impressive cash prize and a dream vacation on the Thursday, February 20 episode of the popular game show.

Foster, a Wisconsin native, took a break from her usual routine of visiting museums and libraries with her kids to compete for a shot at big winnings. When she does find rare moments of quiet, she admits she enjoys sitting in her car in complete silence—something many parents can surely relate to. Before dedicating herself full-time to her family, Foster was an anchor for NewsChannel 7 from 2015 to 2021.

At first, luck didn’t seem to be on her side. Her competitors, Babatunde Oyelowo, a gaming and anime enthusiast who grew up in Japan, and Eric Dotterer, a globetrotting marathon runner from New York, dominated the early rounds. Both men quickly solved the first two puzzles, leaving Foster trailing behind.

But in classic Wheel of Fortune fashion, the tide turned. In the third puzzle, Oyelowo and Dotterer both stumbled—one selecting incorrect letters, the other landing on the dreaded “Lose a Turn” wedge. Seizing the opportunity, Foster filled in the correct letters and solved the puzzle, “Life-Changing Experience,” earning herself $3,700.

Momentum was now on her side. The next puzzle, a “Before & After” challenge, brought even more good fortune. Foster landed on the coveted $3,500 wedge, as well as the $10,000 wedge, while both of her opponents hit “Bankrupt.” She confidently solved the puzzle, “Wedding Ring Toss,” and her total skyrocketed to $19,550.

“I love this place,” Foster said with a laugh, a sentiment host Ryan Seacrest quickly agreed with.

Dotterer made a comeback in the following round, solving the puzzle and winning a vacation, bringing his total to $19,324. Meanwhile, Oyelowo remained at $1,000. During the Triple Toss-Up, Dotterer added another $4,000, while Foster snagged $2,000, temporarily pushing Dotterer into the lead.

However, Foster wasn’t done yet. In the final regular round, she dominated once again, solving the puzzle and earning an additional $8,500, boosting her total to $30,050 and securing her spot in the Bonus Round. Dotterer finished with $23,324, while Oyelowo ended with $1,000.

In the Bonus Round, Foster chose the category “What Are You Doing?” and was given the usual letters—R, S, T, L, N, and E. She then selected M, D, G, and O. As the letters appeared, the board revealed “R_DG_NG T_E G _.”

Before Seacrest could even start the timer, Foster confidently blurted out, “Bridging the gap.” She was right! Her correct answer added $40,000 to her winnings, bringing her final total to $89,942, plus an incredible cruise to Iceland.

Overjoyed, Foster hugged Seacrest tightly as he laughed and told her, “Congratulations!” A life-changing experience indeed.
