Most air fryers work safely for years, which is exactly why their risks are so often dismissed. They become part of the kitchen background: always plugged in, always ready, rarely questioned. Yet every hour they stay connected, they remain part of an electrical chain that can fail without warning—from a stressed outlet to a damaged cord hidden behind the counter. That quiet hum of convenience is powered by steady current and intense heat, even if you only use it for a few minutes at a time.

Unplugging after use isn’t about fear; it’s about control. It cuts off exposure to power surges, internal faults, and accidental activation when you’re asleep or away. Pair that with simple habits—wiping away grease, giving the unit space to breathe, inspecting cords, skipping extension leads—and you dramatically lower the odds of a slow, smoldering problem turning into a kitchen disaster. A single extra second to pull the plug buys a lot of peace of mind.
