Emma Thompson earns support after calling out Timothée Chalamet

Timothée Chalamet Sparks Online Mockery on Graham Norton

Timothée Chalamet’s recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show drew sharp reactions on social media. The 29-year-old actor appeared to promote his upcoming sports drama Marty Supreme, alongside Emma ThompsonRowan Atkinson, and former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful.

A discussion about Thompson’s iconic film Love Actually quickly made Chalamet the subject of online ridicule. Many viewers said he misread one of the movie’s most famous scenes.

Misreading a Christmas Classic

During the episode, Chalamet revealed he had rewatched Love Actually the night before. He enthusiastically told Thompson and host Graham Norton,

“Love Actually, what a jam! I was rewatching it last night, and that’s sort of a complicated, ethically, storyline… because you guys resolve the dispute quite easily.”

The comment referred to the film’s ending, where Thompson’s character Karen confronts her husband Harry, played by the late Alan Rickman, about an inappropriate Christmas gift. In reality, the scene ends awkwardly, showing tension and discomfort, not a complete resolution.

Emma Thompson responded with a surprised expression:

“Well, do you think? I don’t think so… You know it’ll never be the same again, that’s the thing.”

Promoting Marty Supreme

Beyond the Love Actually discussion, Chalamet spoke about his role as Marty in the 1950s sports drama, loosely based on table tennis hustler Marty Reisman. Set for release in the United States on Christmas 2025, the film has drawn industry praise, with many calling it one of Chalamet’s standout performances.

He has also received Best Actor nominations from the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards ahead of the upcoming awards season.

Behind the Scenes with Thompson and Atkinson

Emma Thompson and Rowan Atkinson also shared memories from Love Actually. Atkinson, who played eccentric salesman Rufus, recalled filming late-night scenes with Rickman, describing him as short-tempered. Thompson joked:

“Yeah, whereas I just did a spot of shopping!”

Fans on social media suggested that Chalamet might benefit from interviewing alongside more experienced co-stars to better understand context and nuance.
