‘Dynasty’ and ‘The Paper Chase’ Actor Passes Away at 98

A beloved figure from television’s golden years has passed away at the age of 98, leaving behind a legacy that spans decades of classic performances. Known for her ability to bring warmth and humor to every role, she became a familiar presence in homes across America during the height of network television.

Her portrayals of strong, witty women made her a fan favorite, particularly among those who grew up watching the glitz and drama of 1980s prime-time hits. Throughout her long career, she appeared in some of the most iconic shows in TV history. From westerns to suspense anthologies, her versatility shone through in appearances on The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

In the late 1970s, she charmed audiences as the sharp and efficient Mrs. Nottingham in The Paper Chase, where she brought depth and intelligence to a supporting role that resonated with viewers. Her talents extended to the big screen as well. She shared scenes with Hollywood greats in films such as Spartacus and Inside Daisy Clover, effortlessly holding her own alongside legendary stars.

Whether in a dramatic moment or a touch of comedy, she displayed a natural grace that made every performance memorable. Colleagues and friends often described her as dedicated, humble, and passionate about her craft. Betty Harford, who gained lasting fame as the Carrington family’s loyal cook in Dynasty, died peacefully on November 2 in Santa Barbara, California. She is survived by her son Chris and her grandsons.
