Barry Manilow Gives Hospital Update After Being Diagnosed with Lung Cancer

Music Legend Shares Personal Battle
Barry Manilow has broken his silence about a health challenge, revealing a lung cancer diagnosis shortly after his holiday shows. The 82-year-old singer shared a hospital photo with a hopeful message, prompting an outpouring of love and support from fans worldwide.

Diagnosis Comes After Persistent Bronchitis
On December 21, 2025, Manilow announced on Instagram that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer. The illness followed a six-week bout of bronchitis, then a second five-week relapse. Doctors ordered an MRI, which detected a small cancerous spot on his left lung.

Manilow credited the early detection to “pure luck” and a skilled physician. He confirmed he would undergo surgery to remove the spot but reassured fans that chemotherapy and radiation were not required. During recovery, he joked about relying on chicken soup and “I Love Lucy” reruns.

Charity Concerts Wrap Up
The announcement came shortly after his seventh annual Christmas charity concert series at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert. These shows raised millions for nonprofit groups in California’s Coachella Valley and remain a highlight of Manilow’s year.

Fans React With Love and Support
On January 2, 2026, Manilow posted a smiling photo from a hospital bed with the caption, “Better Today!” Social media erupted with messages of encouragement. One fan wrote, “Keep healing. Barry… You can do it. God is good all the time.” Another joked, “You even make that hospital gown look fine! 😉🥰 Be well! ❤️”

Tour Rescheduled for Recovery
Manilow postponed the January 2026 dates of his arena tour to focus on recovery. The tour now runs from late February through April, with all tickets honored at new dates.

  • February 27: Tampa, Florida

  • March 6: Columbus, Ohio

  • March 11: Charleston, South Carolina

  • March 13: Orlando, Florida

  • March 14: Sunrise, Florida

  • March 16–17: Estero, Florida

  • April 24: Greensboro, North Carolina

  • April 27: Jacksonville, Florida

  • April 29: Duluth, Georgia

His Valentine’s weekend shows in Las Vegas (February 12–14) will proceed as planned. He also reminded fans, “If you have even the slightest symptom… get tested!”

A Bittersweet Farewell Tour
Manilow’s health update adds deeper meaning to The Last Concerts tour. He described these final performances as a way to honor the cities that supported him through decades of music. In a June 2025 interview, he reflected on seeing contemporaries like Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, and Neil Diamond retire or stop touring due to health.

He remains energetic and confident: “I’m still healthy. I’m strong and I’ve still got my voice. The night I can’t hit the F natural on ‘Even Now,’ that’s the night I throw in the towel. But I can still do it.”

For Manilow, this farewell tour is a turning point, a chance to celebrate his career while acknowledging that some venues he has played countless times will see him for the last time.

Overcoming Past Health Challenges
This is not the first time health issues disrupted Manilow’s plans. In 2022, he tested positive for COVID-19 hours before the premiere of his musical Harmony. He urged fans to attend in his place and emphasized safety while celebrating live theatre.

Staying Sharp and Active at 82
Manilow has openly shared his approach to aging. In 2023, he said, “I think of people who are 80… they look older than I do. They’re retired. That ain’t me.” He credits staying busy with keeping mentally sharp and energized, maintaining a packed schedule of music production, performances, and stage projects.

Even amid recovery, Manilow’s focus on music and performing remains unwavering. He continues to inspire fans with his dedication, resilience, and optimism, proving that passion for one’s craft transcends age and challenges.
