Try not to use very hot water, and when drying off with a towel, gently pat your skin instead of rubbing it.Also, when shaving, always use a fresh razor and a shaving gel to protect your skin.

One helpful trick is to moisturize your hands every time you wash them, especially in winter.

Hands are one of the first areas to dry out. Experts also suggest adding a humidifier to your home, as it can help keep indoor air more skin-friendly.

Some studies show olive oil can help calm inflammation and make skin feel softer. Still, using it by itself could damage your skin barrier over time. A safer bet is to add a few drops to your face masks or apply it to rough patches like elbows, instead of putting it all over your face.

2. Oatmeal

You’ve probably heard of oatmeal baths for soothing irritated skin — and for good reason. Adding a cup of oats to your warm bath can help lock in moisture and calm itchy, dry skin. It’s a gentle and relaxing remedy that’s been around for ages.

3. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a popular ingredient in many home remedies, especially for treating dry skin. “Coconut oil becomes a solid at room temperature, so use it as a moisturizing cream at bedtime or anytime,” says dermatologist Tsippora Shainhouse, MD. She also points out that “For chapped heels and hands, apply the oil, then layer with thick socks or non-latex gloves.”

4. Milk Compress

“Milk has natural anti-inflammatory properties,” says Shainhouse. “It also contains lactic acid, a mild, natural exfoliant,” she adds. This combo helps hydrate your skin while gently removing dead skin cells. However, avoid this method if your skin is cracked or broken.

To make a milk compress at home, soak a clean washcloth in cold milk and apply it gently to your skin for a few minutes.

5. Aloe Vera

Most people know aloe vera as an after-sun gel or a soothing balm, but it also works wonders for dry skin. It contains mucopolysaccharides like hyaluronic acid, which help your skin hold onto moisture. That said, it’s always smart to do a small patch test first in case your skin reacts to it.

6. Honey

Honey is another fantastic natural remedy for dry or flaky skin. Research shows it has healing and anti-inflammatory properties, making it useful for soothing irritated areas.
