Jasveen Sangha, a woman known as ‘Ketamine Queen’ has pleaded guilty to supplying the drugs that killed Matthew Perry.
Perry died in October 2023
Matthew Perry was found dead in his Los Angeles home on 28 October 2023. He was 54 years old and was found by his assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office attributed his death to an accidental overdose of ketamine, per NBC News.
He was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy
Closer to his death, the Friends actor had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat mental health issues.
Jasveen Sangha has now pleaded guilty to five federal charges, including providing him the ketamine that led to his death.
Sangha faces up to 65 years
Jasveen Sangha now faces up to 65 years of prison time after she admitted to three counts of distributing ketamine, one count of maintaining drug-involved premises, and one count of distributing ketamine resulting in death.
She’s the final person charged with Perry’s death
Sangha is the fifth and final defendant charged with the actor’s death to plead guilty.
The other defendants involved in the case include Dr Salvador Plasencia, who pleaded guilty in July and faces up to 10 years in federal prison after being found guilty of four counts of distribution of ketamine.
Three others were also charged
The three defendants who pleaded guilty are Dr Mark Chavez, Kenneth Iwamasa, and Erik Fleming who were charged for their co-operation.
Prosecutors said Sangha, 42, is a prolific drug dealer known to her customers as ‘Ketamine Queen’.
The Attorney’s Office spoke about the issue
According to the US Attorney’s Office, Sangha worked with Erik Fleming, 55, of Hawthorne, to knowingly sell ketamine to the actor.
They said his ‘struggles with drug addiction were well documented’, adding that ‘in October 2023, Sangha and Fleming sold Perry 51 vials of ketamine’.
The defendants are said to have ‘taken advantage’ of Perry
In a press conference last year, Attorney Martin Estrada said, “These defendants took advantage of Mr Perry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves.”
“They knew what they were doing was wrong, they knew what they were doing, was risking great danger to mister Perry, but they did it anyways.”
The attorney said they were ‘profiting off’ Perry
“In the end, these defendants were more interested in profiting off Mr. Perry than caring for his wellbeing,” Estrada went on.
He then added, “As many of you know, Mr Perry struggled with addiction in the past. Now, on many occasions he sought help for his addiction issues.”
Perry became addicted again
“The investigation revealed that in the fall of 2023, Mr Perry fell back into addiction, and these defendants took advantage to profit for themselves. These defendants cared more about profiting off of Mr Perry than caring for his well-being,” the attorney added.
Estrada warned against issues like Perry’s
Estrada added, “Drug dealers selling dangerous substances are gambling with other people’s lives over greed. This case, along with many other prosecutions of drug dealers who cause death, sends a clear message that we will hold drug dealers accountable for the deaths they cause.”
