Why Trump supporters are losing their ‘trust’ in him over Epstein files amid missing footage and conspiracy theories

Some of Donald Trump’s most loyal supporters are said to be turning on the president after he defended his attorney general Pam Bondi and her handling of the Epstein files.

Conspiracy theories have been rife for years, suggesting Epstein had some form of ‘client list’ that had rich and powerful people involved in sex trafficking.

Bondi and the Department of Justice denied last week the list was even a thing, adding they would not release any additional files related to the case.

“For years, it’s Epstein, over and over again,” Trump posted on Truth Social amid all the noise. “Why are we giving publicity to Files written by Obama, Crooked Hillary, Comey, Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Biden administration.”

While Trump is hoping his supporters will move on, many of them gathered at the Student Action Summit.

Hosted by the conservative activist group Turning Point USA, a key topic of discussion at the meet was the Epstein files.

“I think that these people — and I don’t know, for whatever reason, there could be reasons — but I don’t think they’re telling us the truth about Epstein,” podcaster Brandon Tatum told the crowd, as per NBC News.

“I think that that guy was involved in something nefarious that implicates a whole lot of people. And my guess is that a whole lot of people may happen to be some of our allies and some people that we don’t want to have a bad relationship with.”

Sharon Allen, a 24-year-old who was in attendance in Tampa, said: “It’s not even about Pam Bondi to me. It’s like, look, Trump, we elected you because you were supposed to be different.

“So you have to prove to us you’re different. … You can fire her [Bondi], do whatever, but at the end of the day, Trump, you are president. We trusted you to get rid of these people and expose these people.”

According to a ActiVote poll, Trump’s approval rating has dropped to its lowest level of his second term.

523 adults were quizzed between June 1 and 30, and it was found Trump’s national approval rating stood at 45 per cent, while 52 per cent disapproved of the Republican president.

That puts the president at a net approval of -7, which marks the worst net approval rating of his second term in office so far, as the numbers seemingly continue to slip.

Despite many clearly being unimpressed with how Trump is handling things in the Oval Office, the president’s current approval rating still outperforms his own average during his first term, which was 41 per cent at its lowest.
