Why Some People Purposefully Put Top Sheets On Upside Down

If you are anything like the rest of us, the process of making your bed is an annoying one. Our mother showed us how to handle it when we were young but that does not make it any easier in the present day.

The average person’s bed is comprised of the following elements: a fitted sheet, top sheet, and either a quilt, comforter, or duvet.

You do not need to be a rocket scientist to make your bed but there are certain tricks and hacks that are incredibly helpful. As it turns out, many of us are actually putting our top sheets on the wrong way. Can you believe that they are inside out?

We had no clue but thanks to Sullivan May of Southern Living, we can now take the proper steps.

The side with the pattern is the one that should be facing downward. This may sound like a silly plan but it all makes sense when it comes to folding the top sheet over the duvet, comforter, or quilt. The patterned side will show, as opposed to being invisible.

May says that the top sheet needs to be folded down an inch or two over the top of your quilt. If the top sheet and quilt are both folded over one more time, the bed will start to resemble the same ones that we sleep in when we visit various hotels. What could be better than that?

These housekeeping tips may seem simple but they are able to spruce up any bedroom and keep it from looking like we have thrown it together without a second thought. Others will recommend using two pillows with pillowcases that match the sheet set. You’ll also want two pillows with pillowcases that match the quilt or duvet cover.

Thanks to these pointers, your days of stressing yourself out over the prospect of making the bed are now over. Kudos to Sullivan May of Southern Living for providing us with this very valuable heads up!
