‘Wheel of Fortune’ Fans Upset Over This ‘Impossible’ Puzzle Nobody Can Solve

“Wheel of Fortune” fans are fuming after yet another contestant lost a massive jackpot to what many are calling an “unfair” bonus puzzle.

On a recent episode, contestant Lisa Santangelo had an incredible run, walking away with more than $12,000 in cash and a dream trip to Hawaii. But the night ended with frustration when she fell short in the Bonus Round—missing out on a whopping $50,000 prize.

The game started rough for Santangelo as another player jumped ahead early. But the tide turned during the Mystery Round, when she nailed the prize puzzle and locked in a luxurious Hawaiian vacation. Riding that momentum, she crushed the next few rounds, securing her spot as the night’s top earner with $12,928 plus the trip.

Then came the high-stakes Bonus Round.

Santangelo selected the “Person” category and joined new host Ryan Seacrest for her shot at the big money. Her mom cheered her on from the stage as she spun the wheel and picked up the Golden Envelope. But when the puzzle appeared, fans knew trouble was coming.

The board revealed this:

O _LE _ _ ENT

After the standard letters R, S, T, L, N, E were added, Santangelo chose P, C, H, and O—giving her just one additional letter: another “O.” With only 10 seconds to solve, she stared in disbelief and muttered, “Oh my gosh, what is it?”

The timer ran out, and Vanna White turned the tiles to expose the solution: “DOUBLE AGENT.”

Even Seacrest admitted the puzzle was brutal. “You needed more to work with. I don’t know how you would have gotten there with that,” he told Santangelo before revealing she had missed out on an extra $50,000.

Santangelo smiled through the disappointment, focusing instead on her Hawaii getaway. But fans were far less forgiving.

“I was stumped on this one, too. Not enough letters! So sorry, Lisa, but congratulations on your trip,” one viewer wrote on YouTube. Another added: “I only got the Agent part. It was Double Agent. She missed $50,000.”

And here’s the kicker: This isn’t the first time this exact puzzle has crushed a contestant’s dreams. Back in 2008, during Season 26, another player lost out on $100,000 thanks to the same phrase.

Now, fans are blasting the show for recycling such a difficult puzzle—especially during a high-stakes holiday giveaway. As one user put it, “Let’s stop pretending this isn’t intentional. That puzzle was impossible.”
