Residents of Huntington, West Virginia, were left puzzled after Brittany Keller captured video of a strange creature walking among deer in Ritter Park on October 24. The animal, spotted at dawn, didn’t resemble anything Keller—or locals—had seen before.
After the footage circulated online, theories ranged from a lemur (quickly ruled out) to something supernatural. However, wildlife expert Andy McKee believes the creature was likely a local fox with severe mange, a skin condition that can cause drastic changes in appearance.
Coincidentally, a similar mystery unfolded in the UK just days earlier, when Bristol Zoo’s trail camera snapped a photo of a horned, winged creature next to a muntjac deer. The zoo asked the public to help identify the strange figure.
From West Virginia to England, the back-to-back sightings have reminded many just how unpredictable nature can be.
