A Peaceful Dinner Gone Horribly Wrong
What began as a relaxing meal quickly turned into a nightmare. One moment, we were enjoying a cozy dinner. The next, we were rushing to the hospital—shaken and horrified.
A Cozy Night Out
My friend and I chose a trendy restaurant in the city center. The setting was perfect: warm lighting, soothing music, and delicious aromas. She ordered a quinoa and avocado salad. Everything seemed normal—until it wasn’t.
A Disturbing Discovery
As we chatted, she paused mid-bite.
“Do you see that?” she asked, pointing to the salad.
Tiny black specks dotted the leaves. At first, we assumed they were chia seeds or some fancy spice. But then we saw them move.
From Curious to Terrified
We leaned in closer. Those weren’t seeds—they were insect eggs. Small, translucent bubbles with black dots inside, wriggling right there on her plate.
Panic hit.
I called the waiter in shock.
My friend pushed the plate away and began to tremble. Without waiting for answers, we grabbed our things and rushed to the hospital.
A Medical Emergency
Doctors at the ER took us seriously. They examined us, ran tests, and prescribed medication just in case. We didn’t know what kind of insect those eggs belonged to—or if we’d ingested any.
They told us to watch for symptoms. We were lucky. Still, the emotional damage was done.
The Restaurant’s Response
We filed a complaint. The restaurant tried to blame the issue on a “technical error” or bad ingredients from a supplier. But none of that mattered.
The trust was gone.
Lingering Fear
To this day, whenever I see chia seeds, I flash back to that night. The fear. The helplessness. The horror of seeing something alive on our food.
A Warning for Others
This isn’t just a story about one bad salad. It’s a warning. Check your food. Stay alert. Because sometimes, what looks like a harmless topping… could be something far worse.
