(VIDEO) Contestant on Wheel of Fortune loses $1,000,000 opportunity due to incorrect answer on ‘simple’ puzzle: ‘_ _ _ ERING S_ME HELP’

Wheel of Fortune Contestant Misses $1,000,000 After Failing “Easy” Puzzle

The Pressure of the Game Show

Playing along with game shows at home feels easy—the pressure’s off when you’re just sitting on your sofa. But under the studio lights, with everyone watching, it gets a lot harder. We all know that, right?

I can relate. I once interviewed for The Chase but never heard back. Maybe they realized I’d win too much money!

A Familiar Show with a Twist

Wheel of Fortune, a beloved game show running for nearly 50 years, challenges contestants to solve word puzzles for cash and prizes. Contestants spin a giant wheel to determine their prize amounts.

Ryan Seacrest now hosts the show, taking over from Pat Sajak after his retirement. Just two weeks into the job, Seacrest witnessed a dramatic moment.

Vivian Tran’s Million-Dollar Miss

Contestant Vivian Tran was one word away from winning $1,000,000 in the bonus round. “You’re playing for $1 million,” Seacrest said as the tension built.

In this round, the show had replaced its usual $100,000 prize with a $1,000,000 option. Tran spun the wheel and faced the puzzle under the category “What Are You Doing?”

The puzzle appeared as: “_ _ _ E R I N G, S _ M E, HELP.”

A Heartbreaking Guess

With the clock ticking, Tran guessed: “Wondering some help? Answering some help? Looking around for some help? Boundary for help?” None of her answers were correct.

The solution was “Offering some help,” a simple phrase that left Tran emotional.

The $1,000,000 Reveal

When Seacrest opened the envelope, it revealed the $1,000,000 prize. It was a crushing moment for Tran, who had been so close.

A Silver Lining

Despite the loss, Tran still walked away with $27,300 and a trip to Europe. Many viewers expressed their support, recognizing how tough the loss was.

One commenter said, “I’d be crying on live TV if I missed out on a million dollars like that.” Another added, “This puzzle was SO EASY. It’s been 10 years—can we get another winner?!”

The Agony of a Near-Win

Tran came agonizingly close to the $1,000,000 prize, but it wasn’t meant to be. Even so, her experience reminds us all how intense the pressure of a game show can be.
