Vatican Reveals Pope Leo XIV’s Earnings

After the de.ath of Pope Francis and the quick election of Pope Leo, there have been many questions. Some people wonder what his stand is going to be on political issues and others may wonder how tolerant he is going to be.

One question that is on the mind of some about the newly elected Pope Leo is how much he is going to be paid for his job. As the head of the Roman Catholic Church, he is going to be earning a paycheck and you might be surprised with how many numbers are on it.

After the Vatican introduced the Chicago born successor of Pope Francis, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the new Pope Leo, millions of people around the world were applauding. He took on that papal name, Pope Leo XIV to honor another Pope Leo and to show that he will have many of the same ideals.

Pope Leo is the 267th Pope, and he is the only one who is from the United States. His big brother, John Prevost, has come clean about a few things we would like to know about Pope Leo, saying that he would follow in the humble footsteps of Pope Francis.

Pope Francis is well known for talking about issues such as climate change, laws that target the LGBT community and wanting reforms in the church. He did swear an oath of poverty, chastity, and obedience to Christ and he did live a simple life.

With his vow of poverty, Pope Francis did not receive his $32,000 annual salary. Rather, he lived in a rather simple bedroom in a church guesthouse and Domus Sanctae Marthae. He denied the opportunity to live at the Apostolic Palace, where other popes of lived.

Pope Francis may have lived a simple life but he was not barely eking by. He had a fleet of vehicles, homes, and charitable allowances that were in the millions during the time that he was in office.

Pope Leo has spent the majority of his life in Peru as a missionary, and he has not yet decided how he will live. His brother, however, seems to feel as if Pope Leo will live close to the same manner as Pope Francis.

According to Cafod, an international development charity, Pope Leo presents ‘a voice of wisdom in a fractured and divided world’. He also spoke about his work in Peru in a positive way.

Pope Leo did wear the traditional red cape of the papacy, which Pope Francis did not wear when giving his first address in 2013. As Pope Leo stood on the balcony over St. Peter’s Square, he gave the simple message: “Peace be with you”.

As far as his salary is concerned, he will be making approximately $2820 per month. As a Cardinal, he was making $5600 per month.

When you stop to think that the Vatican is basically paying for everything he needs and wants, getting close to $3000 a month is not a bad payday. He will also likely receive a nice allowance to make some charitable donations.
