Utah dad accused of stabbing sex offender over 17 times after he ‘made comments’ about his daughter

A Utah father has been accused of stabbing a registered sex offender 17 times after he allegedly made comments to his daughter, according to reports.

Thad James Gurule, 32, was booked into Carbon County Jail on attempted murder charges after authorities were called to a Wellington home on Monday over reports of a man seen covered in blood standing on the porch, according to Fox13.

Emergency personnel found the unidentified victim near the home with 17 stab wounds, the outlet reported. He survived the attack, but his condition is not immediately clear.

The victim later told cops that he didn’t personally know his attacker — but met him at a post office several days prior, the local Fox affiliate station reported.

Officers later identified the alleged knife-wielding man as Gurule, who allegedly admitted to cops that he assaulted the man after he reportedly made comments about his daughter.

After doing an internet search, Garule learned the man was a registered sex offender, the news report said.

Garule denied stabbing him at first, but later admitted to disposing of the knife at the scene.

The alleged vigilante walked over to the victim’s apartment and had lured him out of his home by asking if he wanted to go on a walk for some food, investigators said, according to the outlet.

Garule denied stabbing him at first, but later admitted to disposing of the knife at the scene, the station reported.

“He confessed, stating that he intended to kill [the victim] to protect his daughter,” police wrote in the probable cause statement, according to KUTV.

Garule also faces additional drug charges after officers reported finding drug paraphernalia items, marijuana, and methamphetamine in a search of his residence, the outlet reported.
