Trump’s persistent bruise draws public worry, though officials respond.

A Ceremony Overshadowed

As Donald Trump held a custom football engraved with his name and honored the Navy Midshipmen for their victory, a bruise on his right hand stole the spotlight. Despite the gleaming championship ring on his left hand, it was the mysterious mark that drew the most attention.

A Pattern Emerges

This wasn’t the first time Trump appeared with strange hand markings. Earlier this year, during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, sharp-eyed viewers spotted a dark bruise-like mark on his right hand. The meeting, marking the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, quickly trended—not for diplomacy, but for the bruise.

Online Reactions Spread Fast

Once the images circulated online, social media buzzed with questions.

  • One user posted, “Scrolling Getty and couldn’t help but notice this photo of a huge bruise on Trump’s hand today.”

  • Another noted, “Some photos over the last few months show bruising on Trump’s hand… always on the same hand.”

  • A third speculated, “That’s the kind of IV bruise you get when you’re on blood thinners. What are they pumping him with?”

Some even claimed he covered the area with makeup, pointing to Getty’s image description, which mentioned possible concealer.

The White House Responds

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt quickly dismissed the speculation. She attributed the bruise to Trump’s habit of shaking hands with thousands of supporters.
“President Trump is a man of the people,” she said. “He meets more Americans and shakes more hands daily than any president in history.”
She reiterated that the bruising came from his constant engagement and physical interaction with the public.

The Mark Reappears

But in mid-March, the bruise returned. New photos showed the same mark on Trump’s right hand, reigniting online chatter.

Experts Question the Handshake Theory

Dr. Anatalia Moore, a skin specialist, disagreed with the White House explanation.
“It’s unlikely that a handshake would cause this kind of bruise—unless done with intense force,” she told The Mirror.
She suggested the mark could result from medical intervention, such as a drip or IV placement, especially in older adults.
“Even a minor bump could leave a visible bruise on someone in their 70s,” she added.

Another Public Appearance, Another Bruise

On April 15, Trump welcomed the Navy Midshipmen football team to the White House. They celebrated their Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy win after beating both the Army and Air Force.
“They’re not just great football players… they’re true American warriors,” Trump said, holding the signed football.
Still, it was the bruise—not the speech—that lit up the internet. Viewers spotted a greenish-yellow mark on his right hand, seemingly covered by makeup.

Social Media Erupts Again

Within minutes, the online community jumped back into speculation mode.
Some suggested the mark resembled an IV bruise. Others proposed dehydration treatment or a vitamin deficiency.

Medical Insight: Minor Trauma?

Dr. Ola Otulana, a UK general practitioner, shared a different take with The Daily Mail.
He described the mark as “a superficial contusion,” or simple bruising from minor trauma.
“Something as basic as bumping the hand, gripping a cane, or undergoing a blood draw can cause this,” he said.
He noted that older adults bruise more easily due to thinner skin and fragile blood vessels.
Medications like aspirin, blood thinners, or anti-inflammatories could also make bruises appear more easily and linger longer.

The Mystery Continues

Despite medical opinions and official responses, the cause of Trump’s recurring hand bruise remains unclear. Speculation thrives—and so does curiosity.
