Trump’s at it again—this time saying he invented a word

Trump Makes Another Bold Claim

Donald Trump never shies away from grand statements. From claiming he “fixed” the economy to declaring he uses the “best words,” he always finds a way to keep people talking. But this time, his latest comment left many scratching their heads.

A Press Conference on Drug Prices

At a recent White House press conference, Trump announced a sweeping plan to reduce prescription drug prices. He promised cuts of up to 80%, aiming to match lower costs seen in Europe.

Calling it “one of the most consequential” executive orders in U.S. history, Trump directed pharmaceutical companies to slash prices for American patients.

“The rest of the world is going to have to pay a bit more,” he said. “America’s going to pay a lot less.”

Then came the unexpected twist.

“Equalizing” — A New Word?

Trump continued:
“So basically what we are doing is equalizing. It’s a new word that I came up with, which I think is probably the best word,” he said confidently. “We’re gonna equalize. We’re all gonna pay the same.”

Wait—did he just say he invented the word “equalizing”?

Linguists Weigh In

Language experts quickly stepped in. TikToker Farrukh Younus offered a quick history lesson. He pointed out that “equalise” first appeared in English between 1480 and 1500.

He broke it down further:

  • Latin rootaequalis = equal

  • Late Latinaequalizare = to make equal

  • English adoption: ~1480–1500

Even Merriam-Webster records the word “equalizing” as dating back to 1559.

So no, Trump didn’t invent it—and he’s definitely not that old.

Social Media Reacts

Naturally, the internet had a field day.

One user joked, “Pretty sure I’ve heard that ‘equalize’ word before!”

Another added, “There was a TV show in the 80s named The Equalizer. Did he invent the word in 1983?”

Not the First Time

This isn’t the first time Trump has declared himself the originator of something. Not long ago, he joked about becoming the next Pope. He even shared an AI-generated image of himself in full papal robes.

Though he later denied making it, the image appeared on his official accounts.

Final Thoughts

Will Trump go down in history as the man who “invented” the word equalize? Probably not. But in today’s political world, stranger things have happened.
