Trump surprises everyone with his unexpected response when asked if JD Vance will succeed him in 2028

President Trump has not committed to endorsing Vice President JD Vance as the Republican nominee for the 2028 election. In an interview with Fox News, Trump praised Vance as “very capable,” but said it was too early to decide, adding that there are many capable people in the party. When pressed about Vance potentially seeking Trump’s endorsement in the future, Trump shifted focus to his own administration’s early successes.

Vance, 40, is on his first international trip as vice president, starting with an AI summit in Paris and later attending the Munich Security Conference. His foreign policy role could influence his political future, especially if he aims for a presidential run.

Trump’s reluctance to endorse Vance now may be strategic, as openly backing a successor could shift attention away from his own presidency. Vance, who was chosen by Trump last year with support from Donald Trump Jr., has a background as a U.S. senator, venture capitalist, and author. While presidents don’t always back their vice presidents for a second term, Vance will likely seek Trump’s endorsement as 2028 approaches. The question remains whether he will receive it.
