Trump sparks concern with a photo implying he plans to run again in 2028

Trump Sparks Concern with ‘Trump 2028’ Photo from the White House

Donald Trump’s latest move inside the White House has stirred widespread concern after he appeared to hint at running again in 2028 — despite the U.S. Constitution barring presidents from serving more than two terms.

The 79-year-old former president has repeatedly said he would “consider” seeking a third term, even though it would be illegal under the 22nd Amendment. His victories in 2016 and 2024 already account for two terms, making any further bid unconstitutional.

A Hint at Another Run

In August, Trump teased supporters by saying he would soon “update” them on his political future. Now, a new post on his Truth Social platform has reignited speculation.

While meeting with Democratic leaders on Monday, September 29, to discuss ways to avoid a government shutdown, Trump was photographed in the Oval Office wearing — and displaying — hats emblazoned with “Trump 2028.”

The post appeared shortly after reports confirmed the government would close for the first time since 2018–2019.

Political Fallout

The move drew swift backlash from Democrats. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries criticized Trump’s actions during an appearance on CNN.

“He is an unserious individual, and the Republicans are unserious at this point,” Jeffries said. “Their erratic, unhinged behavior shows exactly who is driving us toward a government shutdown.”

Growing Alarm Over Trump’s Intentions

Trump’s post, paired with an AI-generated video mocking Jeffries, has deepened fears that he is once again testing political boundaries. For many, the “Trump 2028” hats are not just campaign props — they’re a symbol of how far he’s willing to push against the Constitution.
