Video clips of President Donald Trump appearing to nod off during an Oval Office event quickly took over social media, forcing the White House to respond. The short moment where he leaned back with his eyes closed was enough to fuel a new round of memes calling him “Dozy Don.”
Critics found the moment ironic, since Trump has spent years calling his rival “Sleepy Joe.” The briefing was about new plans to reduce the cost of GLP-1 weight loss drugs, announced by Dr. Mehmet Oz, who leads the Medicare services program. As Oz spoke beside the Resolute Desk, Trump seemed to drift for a few seconds, and that was all it took for online jokes to explode.

California Governor Gavin Newsom joined in almost immediately. He posted on X: “DOZY DON IS BACK.” His press office also shared a collage of Trump with his eyes closed and the caption “The Nodfather,” styled like the Godfather movie poster. The mocking tone spread fast and gave critics fresh fuel about Trump’s age and energy.
At seventy-nine, Trump is now older than Joe Biden was when he first took office in 2020. His brief drowsiness led many to question his stamina for long public events and policy meetings. The White House didn’t take long to push back, calling the reports “garbage.”
The official statement said: “The President was not sleeping; in fact, he spoke throughout and took many questions from the press during this announcement which represents a historic reduction in prices for Americans on two drugs that help Americans struggling with diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and other conditions.” They said the focus should be on the announcement, not the brief video clip.
The administration accused “liberal media” outlets of ignoring what they called a major healthcare win. “This announcement by President Trump will save a significant amount of money and countless American lives, and yet the failing, liberal media want to push a garbage narrative instead of covering it,” the statement said.
If the plan moves forward, GLP-1 drugs could drop to $149 a month for oral versions and $249 for injectable ones. The price cuts were described as historic by the administration.
The same week brought another strange scene when a pharmaceutical executive collapsed at a different White House event. Photos showed Dr. Oz and other officials rushing to help as staff and reporters scattered. Health Secretary RFK Jr. was also seen nearby during the commotion.
Trump stood behind the desk looking toward the cameras while the scene unfolded. One comment online joked, “Just replace the guy on the floor with America and we have the perfect painting for 2025.” Dr. Oz later said the man had recovered after medical attention.
