Trump approval rating rebounds as new poll shows him hitting three-month high

President Trump received some rare good polling news Monday as a new survey shows him with his highest approval rating since early fall.

The poll of likely voters by InsiderAdvantage shows 50% approve of the job Trump is doing while 41% disapprove, with the remaining 9% undecided.

Monday’s results mark the highest raw approval rating for the president in an InsiderAdvantage survey since late September, when 52% of respondents approved of his performance.

The nine-percentage-point net approval rating for Trump is the highest since mid-August, when 54% gave Trump a positive approval rating and 44% gave him a negative approval rating, a spread of 10 percentage points.

“This survey was conducted after Trump’s speech to the nation [Dec. 17] and after the release of the most recent CPI inflation report,” said InsiderAdvantage pollster Matt Towery.

“After having Trump at or above 50% approval for months, our November survey showed a dip to 44%. But in recent days his approval moved back into the 50-percentile range. The improvement came from numerous demographics — including and most importantly independent voters. His support among younger voters rose, as did his support among female voters,” Towery went on.Donald Trump speaking at a political rally with a banner in the background reading "LOWER PRICES BIGGER PAYCHECKS."

“Interestingly, our recent job performance surveys have shown the number of undecided respondents at an unusually high number. This tells us that some voters, particularly independents, remain unsure as to his accomplishments so far. This suggests he has work to do as he and the GOP enter the midterm season.”

The vast majority of polls show Trump’s job approval underwater, with the RealClear Politics polling average showing 43.6% of Americans approve of his work and 53.2% disapprove.

The InsiderAdvantage poll surveyed 800 likely voters by a combination of cellphone calls and text messages Dec. 19-20, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
