There are going to be times when we may have difficulty identifying something. Perhaps it is something that we found in an out-of-the-way corner of the home or maybe something that was in a box and has been seen in years.

When somebody came across an unusual item at their house, they decided to go to the Internet to try to figure out what it was. Even the Internet had a difficulty, but somebody finally came through.

This unusual steel tool with a handle looked as if it had some sort of purpose, almost as if it was going to make a horn noise when you turned the handle. Actually, it had a much different use.

This tool was known as a meat grinder. The history behind the tool was actually rather interesting. For many years, it was used in the UK for mincing raw or cooked meats, vegetables, and fish.

Although you would have a hard time finding one of these in use today, it was a very common thing to see in the kitchen around the turn of the last century. It was actually popular since the 1800s when it was invited by Karl Drais.

This is one of the older tools, as it is cranked by hand. You feed the meat in the top of it and then it grinds it and pushes it through the small holes in the front of the metal plate.

Eventually, technology would have this item being electronically powered, which made it a lot easier to work. There are even some modern grinders that can go through pounds of meat without any effort.

Some newer models may have a number of attachments that can help you to make sausage or even juice vegetables. It seems as if every time the item went through a modern phase, more features were added to it.

You may not have used one of these before but if you have one, it’s well worth trying. It’s a unique tool that does a unique job.
