This actor used to live on $150 a month—today, he runs a farm with his star-studded spouse

From Flophouse to Farm Life: Kevin Bacon’s Incredible Journey

Can you guess which legendary actor went from paying just $150 a month for a shabby New York “flophouse” to living on a peaceful farm with his famous wife?

If you said Kevin Bacon, you guessed right.

Chasing the Dream

Kevin Bacon always knew he wanted to act. As a kid, he would rush home from the movie theater, throw on old clothes from a costume box his mom kept, and transform into his favorite characters. That box sparked a lifetime of creativity and imagination.

A Humble Start in New York

In 1976, fresh from Philadelphia, Bacon moved to New York City. With no money, he slept on his sister’s couch until he found a cheap rental through the Village Voice. The catch? It wasn’t even a solo room—he shared the space with a classical pianist for four years.

Despite the cramped living conditions, Bacon looks back fondly. He remembers the late-night piano music that filled their small apartment.

Hungry for the Real Thing

While studying at Circle in the Square Theater School, Bacon immersed himself in the arts. “I wanted life, man, the real thing,” he once told Cosmopolitan. His passion was clear. He wasn’t interested in business—only creativity and expression.

From Struggling Actor to Star

While living on that tiny budget, Bacon was already preparing for his big break. It wasn’t long before he made a name for himself. Films like FootlooseBeauty Shop, and The Woodsman turned him into a household name.

Welcome to the Farm Life

Today, Bacon lives a dramatically different life. He and his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick, now own a 40-acre farm in Sharon, Connecticut. Their animal family includes goats, pigs, alpacas, and even miniature horses.

“I love animals. They’re calming,” Bacon shared. “We also love picking fresh herbs, tomatoes, basil, peppers, and zucchini from our garden.”

No More Takeout

Back in New York, Bacon didn’t cook. “I used to just grab a slice of pizza or a sandwich,” he admitted. His roommate, however, was a frugal cook who made his own meals. Watching him inspired Bacon to learn.

A Social Media Shift

Now, fans know Bacon and Sedgwick not just from movies, but also from TikTok. Sedgwick often posts videos with their goats, much to fans’ delight. “People say, ‘We love you singing with the goats,’” she told People. “Kevin and I are like, ‘Great… have you seen our movies?’”

A Change in Diet

Bacon’s bond with the animals changed how he eats. He no longer consumes goat or pig products. “It’s all about the animals,” he said. In fact, his wife has banned him from adopting more—otherwise, he might stop eating more types of food altogether.

Celebs and Country Living

Bacon and Sedgwick aren’t alone in their love for the land. Actress Jennifer Garner bought her family’s old farm and turned it into an organic baby food project.

What Do You Think?

Do you like seeing celebrities embrace a quieter, rural lifestyle? Would you trade city lights for garden-grown tomatoes and mini goats?
