They Left Him In The Forest With Food He Couldn’t Open

Hank was left alone in the woods with nothing but his dog bed, some toys, and a bag of food he couldn’t even open. He had a broken leg and just laid there waiting.

A Good Samaritan eventually found him still sitting on that dog bed and called for help. The local animal shelter came out and picked him up.

Humans and Animals United wrote: “Only a puppy at 8 months old yet has been through so much. His tail started wagging once he knew he was being taken into the veterinary hospital. We cannot imagine why anyone would dump him with a broken leg. Left him with his bed, toys and food in the woods. Whoever you are please know that Hank is now safe and will never ever be hurt again.”

At first rescuers weren’t sure how he’d react since he’d been in survival mode, but it turned out Hank was just pure love. Rosa Fond said: “He was nothing but love from the moment they got him. Everybody says that he’s the sweetest dog.”

He was taken to the vet right away. They confirmed his leg had been broken for more than two weeks, which explains why he wasn’t moving from that bed.

The injury was bad enough that Hank almost got euthanized. But Humans and Animals United stepped in before it was too late.

He needed surgery but also had to gain weight first. He was so skinny when they found him, no one could say exactly how long he’d gone without real food.

Staff at the vet gave him lots of love while he waited for surgery. His story spread online and people were quick to donate. Donations poured in to cover his medical care. People were angry and heartbroken that anyone could leave a dog like this.

Thanks to all the support, Hank’s first surgery was a success. He’s still recovering and hasn’t put on enough weight yet, but he’s on his way.

His bones still stick out, so they’re feeding him small meals throughout the day. He’s staying in a temporary foster home right now.

Soon he’ll move to a foster who specializes in dogs like him. Once he’s fully recovered, he’ll be ready for adoption.

A lot of people have already asked about adopting Hank. But he hasn’t been matched with a forever home just yet.

The rescue wrote: “So thankful, for the good Samaritan that found him and everyone involved in his care. I know he will have a wonderful life from here on out.”
