At Savannah / Hilton Head International Airport, two graves lie beneath runway 10. These belong to Catherine and Richard Dotson, whose land was converted into an airport.

Richard and Catherine Dotson, married for 50 years, farmed this land known as Cherokee Hills. Both passed in the late 1800s and were buried in their family cemetery. In 1942, the U.S. government leased the land for military purposes.
Most graves were relocated, but the Dotsons remained near the runway. Two other graves, John Dotson and Daniel Hueston, also stayed on the airport property, kept by the family’s wishes.
