Born to Be Big: The Incredible Story of Kevin Robert Clark
When 24-year-old Patricia Clarke became pregnant in 1983, she had a strong hunch her baby would be big. After all, her first child had been large, and big babies ran in her family. But nothing could have prepared her for just how large her newborn would be.
A Record-Breaking Birth
Patricia gave birth to Kevin Robert Clark, who weighed in at over 16 pounds. He wasn’t just big—he made history. Kevin became the largest baby ever born at Community Memorial Hospital and possibly in all of New Jersey at the time.
Standard baby gear couldn’t contain him. Cribs were too small. Newborn clothes didn’t fit. Still, doctors confirmed Kevin was perfectly healthy, much to his parents’ relief.
Instant Fame
Kevin’s size didn’t go unnoticed. He quickly captured national attention. He was featured on “Good Morning America” and even inspired a segment on “Saturday Night Live.”
Growing Into the Spotlight
Kevin continued to grow—fast. By age 12, he stood 5 feet 7 inches tall. By junior high, he had shot up to 6 feet 5. He eventually reached a towering 6 feet 9 inches.
He told the New York Post, “There isn’t a day that goes by when someone doesn’t ask me how tall I am. I like to joke that I’m 5-foot-21. When people ask if I play basketball, I ask if they play miniature golf.”
Life Today
Now 35, Kevin is a former military man. He lives with his 6-foot-tall wife and their Great Dane. Though he still towers over most people, Kevin embraces it with confidence and humor.
More Than Just Size
Growing up in the spotlight, Kevin faced constant attention. Strangers pointed, asked questions, and stared. Yet, he’s taken it all in stride—with a sense of humor and grace.
We wish Kevin all the best as he continues to live large—both literally and figuratively.
