The author Stephen King faces online backlash after commenting on the ICE agent Jonathan Ross case

Stephen King Faces Backlash Over ICE Agent Comments

Author Stephen King is facing criticism for a social media post about ICE agent Jonathan Ross. He questioned claims that Ross had been “run over” by Renee Nicole Good during the fatal January 7 encounter in Minneapolis.

The video shows Ross fatally striking Good in the face as she attempted to drive away. While the FBI continues to investigate, politicians and the public are divided over what the footage reveals.

King Weighs In

On January 16, King tweeted:

“The visual evidence shows no indication that the agent who fired the weapon, Jonathan Ross, had been run over.”

The 78-year-old horror author has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump since 2016. Many social media users reacted strongly to his comments, reflecting the ongoing debate over the incident.

Some users agreed with King, noting that the videos show Ross walking away without visible injuries. Others criticized him, pointing out that Ross reportedly suffered internal bleeding during the encounter.

Divergent Public Opinions

Public opinion remains split:

  • Supporters of Ross argue he acted in self-defense. MAGA influencer Gunther Eagleman tweeted, “The visual evidence shows Renee Good tried to run over and M*RDER the ICE agent.”

  • Critics say Ross was not run over. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey stated, “Watch the video. The ICE agent was not run over. You had a person that was definitively trying to just get out of there.”

President Donald Trump told The New York Times that Ross acted in self-defense and that Good “ran [the agent] over.” The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Ross suffered internal bleeding but offered no further details.

The Incident in Context

The video shows ICE agents approaching Good’s SUV on a residential street in Minneapolis. They ordered her out of the vehicle. As she attempted to drive away, one agent fired multiple rounds, striking her.

The incident sparked protests in Minneapolis. Governor Tim Walz called the ICE agents “untrained” and accused the federal government of punishing Minnesota for voting against Trump.

Meanwhile, Good’s family has hired the Chicago law firm Romanucci & Blandin, known for representing George Floyd’s family, to conduct their own investigation.

Fundraisers and Fallout

Two GoFundMe pages were created: one for Good’s family and another for Jonathan Ross. As of this writing, Ross’s fundraiser raised $762,000, while Good’s family received nearly $1.5 million.

The ongoing FBI investigation continues to examine the encounter, while six federal prosecutors reportedly resigned after being asked to investigate Good’s wife, who confronted Ross in the video.

Broader Debate Over ICE

The post and reactions highlight the national debate over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The agency, formed in 2002 under the Homeland Security Act, enforces U.S. immigration laws. ICE has become a central focus in national politics, especially during the Trump administration.

Stephen King’s post reignited discussion over the Minneapolis incident and ICE’s role. Public opinion remains sharply divided. The video evidence, ongoing investigations, and personal accounts continue to shape the conversation as the nation watches closely.

A disastrous meeting in downtown Chicago, investors threatening to walk away, partners doubting the logistics empire he had built from nothing – it all sat heavy on his chest. By the time he stepped through the front door, loosening his tie, he was ready for the same emptiness that had greeted him every night for eight months. No music. No footsteps. No voices. Just the echo of what used to be a family. But tonight, something cut straight through the quiet. Laughter. Not polite giggles or the tired laugh people use when they’re trying to make others comfortable, but loud, full, stumbling-over-itself laughter. Children’s laughter. Miles froze in the entryway. His briefcase slipped from his hand and landed on the marble floor with a dull thud. Evan, Leo, and Max hadn’t laughed since the night their mother didn’t come home from a late errand. Since the accident. Since everything in their world shifted and stayed that way. His heart hammering, he followed the sound down the hall toward the bright sunroom his late wife, Hannah, used to fill with plants and art projects. When he stepped into the doorway, his breath caught. To be continued in the comments 👇
