James Darren, celebrated for his roles in Gidget, T.J. Hooker, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has passed away at age 88.

According to TMZ, Darren died peacefully in his sleep at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on Monday.

Cause of Death Uncertain

While his exact cause of death is still unknown, Darren’s son, Jim Moret, revealed that his father had been struggling with heart issues. Darren had been admitted to Cedars-Sinai’s cardiac unit due to worsening health.

Failed Surgery Attempt

Darren reportedly sought treatment for an aortic valve replacement but was deemed too frail to undergo the surgery safely. He was discharged but had to return to the hospital shortly after.

Reflecting on his father’s spirit, Jim Moret said, “I always thought he would pull through because he was so cool. He was always cool.”

Darren first gained fame in 1959 with his role as Moondoggie, the charming surfer in Gidget. His popularity soared, and he reprised the role in two sequels: Gidget Goes Hawaiian and Gidget Goes to Rome.
