Texas State Student’s Compassion Goes Viral
A Texas State student is capturing hearts online after making a life-changing decision: he adopted a baby he found abandoned in a trash pile.
A Shocking Discovery in Haiti
In 2017, Jimmy Amisial, originally from Haiti, was visiting family during New Year’s celebrations. While walking through his hometown, he heard cries coming from a trash pile.
Jimmy found a four-month-old baby boy, later named Emilio Angel Jeremiah. The baby had no clothes and was covered in fire ants. “You could see him crying, and he had no clothes on, and he had fire ants crawling all over him,” Jimmy told Fox.
Locals Feared the Child
A crowd had gathered, but no one helped. Due to Haitian superstitions, locals believed the baby was cursed. Jimmy recalled, “They were like, it’s New Year’s Eve, the devil is trying to get us.”
Taking Action Despite Fear
Jimmy, who often volunteered at orphanages, knew he couldn’t leave the baby behind. At just 22 years old, he gathered the child in his arms and brought him home. Soon, Haitian officers and a judge arrived. They asked if Jimmy wanted to become Emilio’s legal guardian.
Without knowing how he’d manage, Jimmy took a leap of faith and said yes. “Even though I didn’t know how I was going to take care of him, I took a leap of faith by saying yes,” he shared.
Facing Challenges
Taking on this responsibility wasn’t easy. Jimmy faced financial struggles and even paused his college education to support Emilio and his mother. Today, Jimmy’s mother helps care for the now 4-year-old in Haiti.
