Teacher Resigns in Protest Over School Policies
A Loudoun County teacher made headlines after dramatically resigning during a recent school board meeting.
Laura Morris, who taught at Lucketts Elementary School, directly criticized the district’s focus on Critical Race Theory and equity trainings.
Resignation Speech Sparks Attention
Speaking passionately to the board, Morris explained her reasons. She said the school’s political agenda and frequent equity trainings clashed with her Christian beliefs.
“I can no longer support an organization that promotes ideologies that conflict with my values,” she said. Despite the district’s strong resources, she felt she could no longer teach there.
Frustration Over Board’s Restrictions
Morris also voiced frustration over how the board handles feedback. She criticized the rules restricting public comments and highlighted discouraging emails from the superintendent. These emails, she said, pressured staff to report colleagues who spoke out against board policies.
Personal Experiences With Equity Trainings
According to Morris, equity trainings labeled her—a white, Christian, able-bodied woman—as someone holding too much power. She found this message harmful and divisive.
She said the training sessions made her feel complicit in promoting political agendas to children.

A Call for Change
Morris ended her speech with a powerful statement: she wasn’t just quitting her job—she was quitting the school board’s ideology.
She encouraged parents and staff to consider alternatives, such as private schools, that align with their beliefs.
Ongoing CRT Controversy
Loudoun County declined to comment on Morris’s resignation. Still, the district remains a flashpoint in the national debate over Critical Race Theory.
While some say CRT promotes awareness of racial history, others argue it divides communities and undermines traditional values.
Other School Board Controversies
Morris’s departure adds to recent tensions. The district previously suspended PE teacher Byron “Tanner” Cross for refusing to use students’ preferred pronouns. A court ordered his reinstatement, though the board plans to appeal.
The board also faces pushback over a proposal to allow transgender students access to sex-specific facilities. That discussion drew hours of public comments and remains under review.
A Broader Reflection
Ultimately, Laura Morris’s resignation reflects deeper challenges in public education. Her stand highlights the growing struggle to balance personal beliefs with evolving school policies.
