Why You Should Never Throw Away a Used Tea Bag
There’s nothing like coffee in the morning to kickstart the day. But when evening rolls around, tea is my go-to.
As soon as you start the kettle, it only takes a few minutes to enjoy a hot cup of tea. After steeping the bag, you remove it, toss it in the trash, and sip away.
But since my grandmother shared some tricks with me, I no longer throw used tea bags away. Keep reading for surprising ways to reuse them—saving you money and offering handy solutions.
1. Soothe Sunburns
Black tea is great for sunburn relief. Simply rinse a used tea bag with cold water and apply it to the sunburned area. The tannic acid in black tea promotes healing and provides a cooling sensation.
2. Relieve Minor Burns
Used tea bags also work wonders on minor burns. Apply a black tea bag to the burn area to relieve pain and soothe the skin, thanks to the tannins.
3. Get Rid of Warts
Green tea’s antioxidants can help prevent warts from growing. Place a cooled tea bag on the wart for 15 minutes. Replace it with a fresh one and leave it on for another 15 minutes. After a few days, your wart will disappear.
4. Say Goodbye to Puffy Eyes
To reduce puffiness, store used tea bags in the fridge. After a day or two, place them on your eyes to help reduce swelling. The tannins work wonders on those under-eye bags!
5. Remove Grease Stains
Tired of stubborn grease stains on dishes? Simply add a few tea bags to your soaking water. The stains will come off much more easily.
6. Natural Weed Killer
Turn tea into a powerful weed killer. Brew black tea and apply it directly to weeds. Or mix citrus peel, tea, and water for a homemade weed-killing solution.
7. Fertilizer for Plants
Compost your tea bags or bury loose tea leaves around your plants. Roses, houseplants, and garden plants like ferns thrive on this natural fertilizer.
