From Red Carpets to Rolling Hills
Now settled full-time in England’s idyllic Cotswolds, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have traded studio lights for sunlit stables and red carpets for rolling pastures. After stepping away from American television, the couple made a dramatic life change. Following the cancellation of DeGeneres’ long-running talk show in 2024, they left the U.S. entirely.
A Scenic New Chapter
After a final stand-up tour across the country, the pair moved to the Cotswolds — a region famed for its honey-colored villages, rolling hills, and quiet charm. Known for their multimillion-dollar home-flipping ventures in California, DeGeneres and de Rossi wasted no time bringing that passion to the English countryside. Within months, they purchased two rural estates.
The first, Kitesbridge Farm, spanned 43 acres and cost around $20 million in spring 2024. They renovated it fully and, a year later, listed it for £22.5 million ($30 million). However, the couple soon realized they needed more space.

Finding the Perfect Home for Horses
“When we decided to live here full-time, we knew that Portia couldn’t live without her horses,” DeGeneres explained. They found their second, permanent residence: a sleek, glass-walled contemporary farmhouse nearby. The property provided ample room for de Rossi’s horses, flown over from the U.S., and offered a lifestyle deeply rooted in nature.
“It’s absolutely beautiful,” DeGeneres said. “The villages, towns, and architecture are charming. Life here is simpler, calmer.”
Life on the Farm
Through social media, the couple shares glimpses of their new rural life. Their days now revolve around farm work: mowing grass, tending animals, and walking the land with their dogs. Chickens roam freely, often climbing onto DeGeneres’ lap during morning rounds. Sheep graze peacefully across open pastures, creating a serene backdrop for the couple’s daily routine.

Rustic Meets Modern
The estate features a barn that blends rustic charm with modern design. Spacious stalls house the horses, while a cozy seating area with leather armchairs, vintage trunks, and wool blankets invites relaxation.
Inside the main house, floor-to-ceiling glass walls flood the rooms with natural light and frame panoramic views of the countryside. The open-plan layout balances elegance and comfort. A large glass table displays books, sculptural objects, and candles, while a dining table seats up to eight guests. Plush couches, armchairs, patterned rugs, and scattered dog toys create a lived-in, inviting atmosphere. Exposed wooden beams add subtle texture, complementing the home’s clean lines.
A Slower, Grounded Lifestyle
Ellen and Portia’s Cotswolds retreat is more than stunning real estate — it represents a new chapter. What began as a transatlantic move has evolved into a slower, grounded way of life, centered on animals, open land, and a peace Hollywood could never offer.
