SAD NEWS – GEORGE W. BUSH

George W. Bush Throws World Series Opener Pitch

Former President George W. Bush grabbed headlines recently when he threw the ceremonial first pitch at the 2023 World Series opener in Arlington, Texas. The pitch bounced before reaching home plate, surprising many fans.

Back Surgery Explains the Bounce

His daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, explained the mishap. “It did not, it curved, and he just had back surgery, so unfortunately he probably injured himself,” she said.

A spokesperson confirmed the report. Bush underwent fusion surgery on his lower back earlier in 2023. “President Bush isn’t one to make excuses, but that’s true,” the spokesperson added. Despite the surgery, he is recovering well.

A History of World Series Pitches

This wasn’t Bush’s first time on the mound. He famously threw a perfect strike in 2001, just a month after the 9/11 attacks. He also took part in first pitches at the 2010 and 2017 World Series alongside his father, former President George H.W. Bush.

Even after surgery, Bush showed his dedication to the tradition, proving that ceremonial pitches run in the family.
