Rumer Willis Shares Heartbreaking Update on Dad Bruce Willis’ Dementia Battle

Rumer Willis opened up with raw emotion this Father’s Day, sharing a touching tribute to her father, legendary actor Bruce Willis, as he continues his battle with frontotemporal dementia.

In a deeply personal Instagram post, Rumer, 36, expressed how much she misses being able to connect with her father like she used to. Alongside heartfelt words, she included photos capturing tender moments between her and Bruce, as well as a sweet image of Bruce with her daughter, Louetta.

“Today is hard,” Rumer began. “There’s an ache in my chest to talk to you, to tell you about my life and everything that’s happening.” She continued, “I wish I had asked you more questions when you could still answer them. But I know you wouldn’t want me to be sad, so I’ll try to be grateful instead.”

The Dancing With the Stars champion shared how much it means to her that Bruce still lights up when he sees his granddaughter. “Even now, I see his eyes sparkle when he’s with Louetta. I’ll treasure every moment I have with him,” she added. “I love you so much, Dad. Happy Father’s Day.”

Rumer, who shares daughter Louetta with ex-partner Derek Richard Thomas, also extended compassion to others facing similar losses or struggles. “Sending love to those who are in this boat with me, who’ve lost fathers, or are single moms playing both roles,” she wrote.

Bruce, now 69, has five daughters—Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah with ex-wife Demi Moore, and Mabel and Evelyn with wife Emma Heming Willis. The Die Hard actor’s family has been a strong and united presence during his ongoing health battle, which was first publicly revealed in 2023.

Emma Heming also posted an emotional message for Father’s Day, honoring not just Bruce but all fathers facing health challenges. “Happy Father’s Day to the dads living with illness or disability, who keep showing up however they can,” she wrote, sharing a photo of herself embracing Bruce.

“What Bruce teaches our daughters goes far beyond words—resilience, love without conditions, and the quiet strength of just being there,” she continued. While the day stirred up sadness, Heming focused on the deeper meaning of love and presence.

“There’s so much in this photo,” she said. “Love deepens, it adapts. It remains, even when everything else changes.”

Acknowledging the grief that comes with seeing a loved one struggle, Heming wrote, “I wish things were different for him, for all of us. But as they say in our FTD community: ‘It is what it is.’ And for me, that phrase brings acceptance.”

Bruce’s diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia, which primarily affects communication and behavior, has changed his life dramatically. But his family’s unwavering love and support continue to be a powerful reminder of the strength found in togetherness.

As Heming concluded, “Today we honor the incredible dads—those still with us and those we carry in our hearts.”
