Rory Feek Pours His Heart Into One Of His Most Emotional Performances In Memory Of Late Wife Joey, Reflecting On Grief That Still Feels Like Yesterday And Lyrics That Hit Harder Than He Ever Imagined

Rory Feek Honors Late Wife Joey with an Emotional Reflection

On August 19, country artist Rory Feek shared a touching video clip from his song “Me & The Blues.” Though the song and video were first released in 2021 as part of his solo album Gentle Man, Rory’s recent post gave the song renewed emotional weight.

Featuring Vince Gill, “Me & The Blues” holds a special place in Rory’s heart — one of many songs that pay tribute to his late wife, Joey Feek, who passed away from cancer in 2016. The couple had been married nearly 15 years and shared a daughter, Indiana, now almost 11 years old.

A Heartbreaking Valentine’s Memory

In the video, Rory is seen reading a Valentine’s Day card — the last handwritten note Joey ever gave him. The moment is raw and deeply emotional, capturing the depth of his grief and love.

Alongside the clip, Rory wrote,

“Getting over the loss of a beloved one is never easy. Sometimes the grief will sneak up and overcome you when you least expect it.”

Even though the video was filmed five years after Joey’s passing, Rory admitted,

“In my heart, it still felt like yesterday.”

Interestingly, Rory revealed that “Me & The Blues” wasn’t originally written about Joey — he actually wrote it two decades ago, around the time he first left Nashville.

“I of course had no idea at the time that the lyric would hit home in such a profound way a couple of decades later,” he shared.

Life After Loss

Eight years after Joey’s passing, Rory has found love again. He married Rebecca, and the two recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary this July.

The couple lives on their farm in Tennessee with Rory’s daughter Indiana, where they run a small community schoolhouse and homeschool Indy, who just started sixth grade.

Rory continues to perform occasionally, hosting intimate concerts on his property and making special appearances across the country.
