Pro Golfing Star’s Girlfriend Passed Away Unexpectedly At 28

Makena White, the 28-year-old girlfriend of PGA golfer Jake Knapp, has died. Her friend confirmed White’s passing in a social media post.

“Hi everyone – this is Makena’s friend, writing with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week. She is already so deeply missed by her Dad, her family, her friends, and of course by Nelly and Fergie.

Makena was one of a kind. She had this rare way of making you feel special, and her huge heart was always overflowing with love. To be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos as we tried to keep up with her travel schedule.

If you would like to honour Makena’s memory, donations to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund would mean a lot.

We love you Mak. We’ll miss you always, and we’ll be looking for you in the sunset 💛”

According to PEOPLE, White revealed on Instagram that her mother, Crystal, began visiting the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic in 2018, where she was later diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Crystal passed away in April 2022.

Jake Knapp is an American professional golfer who rose to prominence on the PGA Tour in 2024. Born in Costa Mesa, California, he played collegiate golf at UCLA before turning professional in 2016. Knapp spent several years grinding on mini-tours and the Korn Ferry Tour, where he earned multiple victories that helped secure his PGA Tour card. Known for his power off the tee and competitive drive, he captured his first PGA Tour win at the 2024 Mexico Open at Vidanta, solidifying his reputation as one of the sport’s rising talents. Off the course, Knapp has been open about the challenges of pursuing a career in professional golf, including working outside the sport before finding success.

White’s final post, shared just about 6 weeks ago, was a heartfelt tribute to her boyfriend, Knapp, 31.

“Year 2 of first fairway hugs & watching you live out your dreams 🫶🏼

Second season in the books — forever grateful to be on this walk with you, here’s to many many many more!

I looooove you sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud 💛”
