A Royal Welcome: Baby Athena Arrives
Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, are now proud parents of two. On January 22, 2024, they welcomed their second child—a baby girl born prematurely, weighing just 4 pounds and 5 ounces. Despite the early arrival, both mother and baby are healthy, according to Buckingham Palace.
Social Media Buzzes Over the Announcement
The couple shared the happy news on January 29, and fans flooded social media with love and congratulations. Although her due date was set for early spring, the early birth hasn’t dulled their joy.
“We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect,” Edoardo posted on Instagram. Fans quickly echoed the sentiment: “What a beautiful name. Congratulations!” and “I love Athena’s name. So happy they’re all healthy!”
The Name Everyone’s Talking About
Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi isn’t just elegant—it’s meaningful. In Greek mythology, Athena symbolizes wisdom, war, and reason. But the connection runs deeper.
A Tribute to Greek Royal Roots
Beatrice’s grandfather, Prince Philip, was born in Greece in 1921 to Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg. Naming their daughter Athena honors that Greek heritage.
This royal baby also climbs the line of succession—now 11th in line to the throne—bumping Princess Eugenie to 12th. Interestingly, Lady Kitty Spencer, niece of Princess Diana, also named her daughter Athena in 2024, keeping the name in royal circles.
A Growing Family Full of Love
Athena is Beatrice and Edoardo’s second child together, following their daughter Sienna, born in 2021. But she’s not the only sibling. Edoardo’s son, Wolfie, from a previous relationship, is already “besotted” with his baby sister.
Edoardo has been a devoted dad since 2016, and Beatrice has embraced her role as a caring stepmother. “Bea has such a good heart,” shared a close friend. “She’s a fantastic mom.”

Overflowing with Joy
The love in their household is clear. “Our hearts are overflowing,” Edoardo wrote, celebrating their new arrival. Athena, with her historical name and strong family bond, is already making headlines—and she’s not even a month old!
