Popular ‘General Hospital’ Star Diagnosed With Ca.nc.*r

Australian actor Tristan Rogers, best known for his longtime role as Robert Scorpio on General Hospital and its spinoff General Hospital: Night Shift, has been diagnosed with ca**er.

The news was shared by his representative, Anthony Turk, in a press release on Thursday, July 17, according to Deadline. Rogers, 79, last appeared on screen on November 12, 2024.

“While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family,” the statement said. “As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from their friends and family.”

“Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years. This support means more to him now than ever.”

According to E! News, as the 79-year-old begins his fig.ht against an undisclosed form of ca**er, his representative stressed his wish for privacy. “Future updates will be shared if Tristan and his family feel it’s appropriate,” the statement noted.

Tristan Rogers, born June 3, 1946, in Melbourne, Australia, is a veteran actor best known for his iconic role as Robert Scorpio on the soap opera General Hospital. He first appeared on the show in 1980, quickly becoming a fan favorite as the suave secret agent turned police commissioner and district attorney. His character’s storylines, including the legendary “Ice Princess” arc, helped define the golden era of daytime television.

In addition to his work on General Hospital, Rogers also starred in its spinoff General Hospital: Night Shift and earned a Daytime Emmy Award for his performance in the digital drama Studio City. Before moving to Hollywood in 1979, he appeared in several Australian TV series. Rogers has also lent his voice to animated films, including the role of Jake in Disney’s The Rescuers Down Under. He lives in Palm Springs and is a father of two.

The actor made his General Hospital debut in 1980, 17 years after the iconic medical drama first premiered. He quickly became a fan favorite as Robert Scorpio, a charming secret agent whose character was killed off in 1992. However, in classic soap opera style, Scorpio was revealed to be alive and made a dramatic return in 2006.

Rogers’ most recent appearance aired during the show’s 62nd season on November 12, 2024, when Robert left town alongside his ex-wife, Holly Sutton, according to Soap Opera Digest.
