Plane Crash Kills Music Star And Five Others

Yeison Jiménez, a Colombian singer-songwriter known for música popular, has died at age 34.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, a plane with the registration N325FA crashed in the area between Paipa and Duitama, Colombia, according to the country’s Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics. The aircraft was traveling to Medellín, and all six people on board were killed.

Jiménez and members of his team were later confirmed among the victims after a representative shared the news in a statement on his Instagram account.

A statement from Yeison Jiménez’s team confirmed his death with “deep sorrow,” describing him not only as an artist, but as a loving son, brother, friend, and a man who turned his life story into hope for others. The statement also expressed condolences to the families of the other victims: Jefferson Osorio, Juan Manuel, Oscar Marín, Weisman Mora, and pilot Captain Fernando Torres.

The small plane, believed to be owned by Jiménez’s company, YJ Company SAS, crashed shortly after takeoff around 4 p.m. local time. Jiménez had been traveling to Medellín, near Marinilla, where he was scheduled to perform that night.

Per PEOPLE, just moments before the crash, Jiménez’s photographer, Weisman Mora, shared a short video on Instagram showing the view from inside the plane as it taxied on the runway. Video recorded after the crash shows the aircraft engulfed in flames as emergency responders attempted to put out the fire.

Authorities confirmed that all six people on board were killed. The Technical Directorate for Accident Investigation is investigating the cause of the crash.
