A Canadian Label Choice
Instead of choosing an American designer, Melania wore a luxury piece from Canadian outerwear brand Mackage, based in Montreal. Her coat, the Gael-V leather trench, features a belted waist and double-breasted buttons. Retailing at $1,890, it’s part of Mackage’s high-end collection.
Melania paired the coat with gray patent leather pumps from Paris-based label Roger Vivier. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump stuck to his signature look: a red tie, navy suit, and white shirt.
Timing Sparks Debate
What truly caught attention wasn’t just the outfit — but the timing. This appearance came amid tense U.S.-Canada trade discussions, including Trump-era tariffs. Some wondered: was the Canadian-made coat a simple fashion pick or a subtle political message?
Political analyst Eric Ham suggested it might signal Melania’s independence from her husband’s policies. “She could be separating herself from the administration’s trade agenda through fashion,” he told Canadian media.

A History of Fashion Headlines
This isn’t Melania’s first controversial wardrobe moment. During a 2018 visit to a migrant detention center, she wore a jacket reading “I really don’t care, do u?” — a look that still sparks debate.
In past Easter events, Melania chose more traditional pieces, often by American or British designers. In 2017, she wore a soft pink Hervé Pierre dress. In 2018, a baby blue Burberry jacket. And in 2019, a classic blue Michael Kors dress.
