People That Are ‘Abrosexual’ Explain What It Means

Abrosexuality: Understanding This Fluid Identity

The term “abrosexual” has gained attention on social media, especially on TikTok and Reddit. Many individuals, including those who identify as abrosexual, have shared how long it took them to recognize and embrace this aspect of their sexuality.

What Is Abrosexuality?

Abrosexuality describes a fluid sexual orientation that shifts over time. According to Medical News Today, an abrosexual person may experience changes in attraction from month to month, day to day, or even hour to hour. This fluidity highlights how sexuality exists on a spectrum, allowing individuals to relate to different identities at various times.

Healthline emphasizes that abrosexuality is not just about changing one’s mind or adopting different labels. Instead, it reflects a genuine evolution of personal experiences.

Personal Experiences With Abrosexuality

Emma Flint, an abrosexual writer, shared her journey in Metro. She described how her feelings fluctuated: “One day I felt like a lesbian, yet days or weeks later, I’d feel more aligned with bisexuality. My sexuality was fluid.” Before learning about abrosexuality, she felt lost and even questioned the legitimacy of her shifting identity.

Emma spent three decades coming to terms with her sexuality. “I only discovered the concept of abrosexuality two years ago, at 30,” she revealed. “I struggled to define my sexuality because it changed so rapidly. I often criticized myself for being unsure, but it wasn’t indecisiveness—it was my identity evolving.”

Social Media Perspectives

On TikTok, user @zoebriskey explained, “Abrosexuality is sexuality that’s fluid.” They noted that while it differs from pansexuality, an abrosexual person may identify as pansexual at times. The term comes from the Greek word “abro,” meaning “delicate” or “graceful,” reflecting the nature of this fluid identity.

A Reddit user shared their experience, saying, “Some people switch between just two sexualities, while others identify with several. Personally, I alternate between being attracted to men and women.”

Growing Awareness and Representation

Although not a new term, awareness of abrosexuality continues to grow. In 2021, RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage posted the abrosexual pride flag on Instagram. This flag, introduced on Tumblr in 2013 by an unknown designer, features five colors—dark green, light green, white, light pink, and dark pink, as reported by The Standard.

As more individuals openly discuss abrosexuality, the conversation around sexual fluidity continues to evolve. Increased understanding and acceptance of diverse identities play a crucial role in fostering inclusivity.
