No small amount of buzz has been generated by the revelation that former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro may be sharing a current prison with a number of high-profile inmates.
The capture and extraction of the South American dictator just a few days ago quickly became headline news all over the world. The Trump administration’s decision to launch an operation that saw elite US forces snatch Maduro and his wife from the Venezuelan capital of Caracas has been questioned by many, though the POTUS insisted the removal was necessary to bring about the end of Venezuelan cartel drug violence.
Having been transported to New York on the night of January 2, Maduro was charged with a slew of criminal offences, including Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States.
Potentially facing the death penalty, Maduro denied any wrongdoing, telling his first court hearing via a Spanish interpreter: “I am not guilty. I am a decent man. I am still the president of my country.”
Meanwhile, his wife, Cilia Flores, has been charged with cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices. She, too, denies all charges.
The pair are currently being held at the notorious Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn – and they’re not the only high-profile individuals calling the place home.

Another big name who entered MDC in recent days is rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine (real name Daniel Hernandez), who checked into the facility on January 6 after pleading guilty to violating the terms of his release, as per ABC7 New York.
Another inmate is Luigi Magione, who stands accused of the 2024 slaying of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
And the list goes on and on…
Other famous faces locked away in MDC have included Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted sex offender and well-known accomplice of Jeffrey Epstein, rapper P. Diddy, who has been moved to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, disgraced hitmaker R. Kelly and rapper Fetty Wap.
The distinguished list of inmates past and present didn’t go unnoticed by people online. Over on platform X, users were vocal in expressing their thoughts.
“The real life Arkham Asylum,” one person wrote.
Another added: “They gotta let them make a podcast together.”
“Put a production crew in there and we’d have the best TV show of all time,” a third quipped.
