It doesn’t matter where you are, somebody is going to have a video rolling and it is possible you may get caught up in the middle of it. Sometimes it can be an unwanted nuisance and at other times, it can change your life.
One woman is figuring out just how much a small video taken on a phone can mean after she was caught yelling racial slurs at a five-year-old child. After the video was posted online, it came back to her in all the bad ways you can possibly imagine.
It took place in Rochester at Soldiers Field Memorial Park. The white, tattooed mother from Minnesota was holding her toddler on her hip and talking with the man who was confronting her. He was upset because she had called a young black boy the ‘N-word’.
Not long after the video was posted online social media identified her as Shiloh Hendrix. She came on the video to defend herself but she didn’t deny the accusation.
Her response before repeating the slur again and making a vulgar gesture at the man was to say: “If that’s what he’s gonna act like.”
He asked: “So that gives you the right to call the child, 5 years old, a n–ga, the “N-word?”
She didn’t seem very happy about the conversation and it wasn’t long before it turned heated. Hendrix said that the child had taken a toy from her son’s diaper bag.
The video quickly made the rounds on social media. It was originally shared by Michael McWhorter (TizzyEnt), a social media influencer. It now has more than 10 million views.
Despite the fact that the clip was relatively short, it has gotten a lot of attention across the nation. Even civil rights organizations and local officials, along with members of the community are saying they do not approve of this type of behavior.
One organization that got involved was The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The Rochester Branch of that organization launched a crowdfunding campaign to support the child who was victimized and his family.
The crowd funder was entitled: “Help Us Seek Justice for a Five-year-old Facing Racial Hate.’ It has since raised over $341,000 for the family.
Because of issues associated with targeting her family, Shiloh has also started a fundraiser. It has raised over $670,000.
In the fund raiser, it says: “My name is Shiloh and I have been put into a very dire situation. I recently had a kid steal from my 18month old sons diaper bag at a park. I called the kid out for what he was. Another man, who we recently found out has had a history with law enforcement, proceeded to record me and follow me to my car. He then posted these videos online which has caused my family, and myself, great turmoil. My SSN has been leaked. My address, and phone number have been given out freely. My family members are being attacked. My eldest child may not be going back to school. Even where I exercise has been exposed.”
