Pelosi Predicts Democrats Will Reclaim the House, Foresees Hakeem Jeffries as 2026 Speaker

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed optimism about the Democratic Party’s chances of regaining control of the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections. She shared these views during the recent Voters of Tomorrow summit, an event focused on engaging young voters and activists.

Pelosi also indicated her confidence that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., would become Speaker if Democrats win back the majority. Jeffries, who succeeded Pelosi as Democratic leader, remains a prominent figure in the party.

Drawing on past midterm successes, Pelosi emphasized the importance of early preparation, including messaging, mobilization, and fundraising efforts. She stressed that building infrastructure and organizing well ahead of the election are key to flipping control of the House.

Pelosi noted that reducing former President Donald Trump’s approval ratings would be a priority for Democrats as they approach the 2026 midterms. Recent polls show Trump’s approval rating around 46%, with 54% disapproval, a slight improvement compared to the same period in 2016.

The Voters of Tomorrow summit featured remarks from several prominent Democrats, including former Vice President Kamala Harris, Representatives Ro Khanna and Jamie Raskin, as well as activist David Hogg. Both Harris and Raskin addressed attendees virtually.

Although Pelosi resigned from her leadership position following the 2022 midterms, she remains actively involved in Democratic Party events and continues to play a role in party organizing and outreach efforts.
