In 2012, Pauline Potter claimed the Guinness World Record as the heaviest woman, weighing over 700 pounds—the equivalent of a fully grown female polar bear. Known as the “world’s fattest woman,” she stunned fans with a shocking transformation that changed her life and inspired many.
A Record-Breaking Journey
Pauline became a household name in 2011 after earning her Guinness title. At the time, her ex-husband Alex supported her size and even encouraged her to reach over 700 pounds.
“Alex loved my size,” Pauline shared. “He made huge meals and fed me pudding as an intimate, loving gesture. I wanted to grow bigger for him.”
Despite their close bond, doctors warned of the severe health risks. “At 700 pounds, Pauline faced life-threatening health problems,” noted Dr. Chris Steele, a former resident doctor on This Morning.
Shocking Realization
After Guinness named her the heaviest woman, Pauline was stunned. Adding to her challenges, Alex left her, leaving her dependent on her teenage son, Dillon.
“I could only feed and clean myself with help,” Pauline explained. Dillon became her primary caregiver, even assisting with mobility and shopping.
Pauline’s condition required meticulous hygiene to prevent infections in her skin folds. “I wash daily, dry thoroughly, and use corn starch to avoid issues,” she said. Dillon also helped reach areas she couldn’t manage alone.
Seeking Help
Determined to reclaim her life, Pauline turned to TLC’s My 600-lb Life in 2014. Under the guidance of Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, or “Dr. Now,” she began a grueling weight loss journey.
Starting at 643 pounds, she faced difficulties sticking to a strict 1,200-calorie diet but eventually lost 44 pounds, qualifying her for gastric bypass surgery.
Setbacks and Triumphs
Post-surgery, Pauline’s journey wasn’t easy. She struggled with unhealthy habits and even gained weight at times. Dr. Now noted, “Her attitude is her biggest obstacle.”
Despite setbacks, Pauline regained control, shedding 500 pounds over the years. By January 2022, she reached her lowest weight of 223 pounds.
A New Beginning
“I’m proud to no longer rely on others for basic tasks,” Pauline shared on Instagram, revealing her stunning transformation. Fans flooded her with support.
“You’re an inspiration!” one fan commented. Another added, “What an incredible accomplishment!”
