On Thursday August 14th, parents Maria Galindo Nunney and Donald Nunney dropped their oldest child, 19-year-old Noah Nunney, off at college for his sophomore year. His two youngest siblings, 15-year-old Lucia, and 9-year-old Leo also went along on the trip.
The very next day, Noah was in his dorm room waiting for his family to visit him before they headed back home. They were going to spend the day together, but they never arrived.
Noah grew worried when he saw his sister and mom’s location hadn’t changed in over a half hour, so he had a friend drive him to the location. That’s when he learned that there had been a car crash.
The minivan his family was in drove off the side of the road and crashed into a tree. Maria died on site. Donald, Leo and Lucia were transported to the hospital where Donald also died. Leo and Lucia survived.
It turns out that Donald had a heart attack while he was driving, and that’s. why he drove the car off the road.
Noah explained to PEOPLE what it was like when he arrived at the car crash. He said, “They wouldn’t let me out of the car, and the way that they sat me down and the look on the officer’s face was truly horrifying.”
He was worried that nobody would survive, but now, he’s feeling much happier knowing his brother and sister are expected to make a full recovery.
Noah will be taking a semester or two off of college to be there for his siblings, which also includes his 18-year-old brother Diego who did not go on the trip to college.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family to help pay for the children’s expenses, and it is less than $10,000 away from meeting the goal of $400,000.
