Outrage Erupts After New Renee Good Shooting Video Reveals a Small Detail

The deadly shooting of a Minnesota woman during an encounter with federal immigration officers is igniting fierce debate nationwide, as new video footage raises serious questions about what unfolded in the final seconds before gunfire erupted.

Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was killed Wednesday in Minneapolis during a confrontation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Federal officials have claimed the incident involved a violent threat, alleging Good used her SUV as a weapon — language the Department of Homeland Security used to frame the encounter as a form of “domestic terrorism,” a label later echoed by President Donald Trump.

But video of the incident, now widely circulated on social media, is fueling skepticism and outrage, with critics arguing the footage contradicts the government’s account.

The short clip shows officers surrounding Good’s vehicle as one agent attempts to open the driver’s side door. Moments later, the SUV moves backward as Good tries to escape the scene. Viewers have focused on a critical detail: the vehicle’s front tires appear turned away from the officer standing in front of the car, not toward him.

As the SUV pulls away, it lightly strikes the officer without knocking him down. Within seconds, the officer fires a shot through the windshield, followed by additional rounds through the driver’s side window while the vehicle continues forward. Good’s SUV then travels roughly 100 feet before crashing into a parked car. The entire exchange takes place in under 10 seconds.

Public reaction has been swift and emotional. Online commenters and activists argue the footage depicts fear and flight, not an intentional attempt to injure law enforcement. Some have accused officers of using deadly force out of frustration as the vehicle escaped their control.

Elected officials have joined the criticism. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez labeled the shooting a “public murder,” saying the video shows a woman attempting to flee rather than attack. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey delivered an even harsher rebuke, demanding ICE leave the city altogether and dismissing claims of self-defense as “nonsense” after reviewing the footage himself.

Good’s family has also pushed back forcefully against the federal narrative. Her mother, Donna Ganger, described her daughter as compassionate, gentle and deeply devoted to caring for others. She said Good was likely terrified during the encounter.

Friends and former teachers echoed that description, remembering Good as a creative spirit — a poet and writer — who fostered kindness in every space she entered. She had no criminal record beyond a minor traffic violation and was born in Colorado, making her a U.S. citizen.

Just hours before her death, Good had dropped off her youngest child at an elementary school. The family had recently relocated to Minneapolis from Kansas City.

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance has made clear the ICE agent involved will not face criminal charges. Speaking to reporters, Vance said the officer has “absolute immunity,” insisting he was carrying out a lawful federal duty. Vance also criticized Minnesota officials who questioned the federal government’s control over the investigation, calling efforts to challenge the agent’s actions “preposterous.”

As flowers and handwritten signs now mark the crash site, the case has become a flashpoint in the broader national battle over immigration enforcement, police accountability and the limits of federal power. With investigations ongoing and public trust shaken, the shooting of Renee Nicole Good is unlikely to fade from the national spotlight anytime soon.
