Orlando Bloom slammed for ‘inappropriate’ beach photo of 4-year-old daughter

What’s okay to share — and what’s better left private — on social media has been a hot topic for years.

Children’s right to privacy and the pressure to showcase a “perfect” life are just a few examples of issues worth thinking about.

One celebrity who recently found himself in hot water is Hollywood star Orlando Bloom, after posting a photo of his 4-year-old daughter that sparked strong reactions.

Quickly deleted it

In August 2025, Orlando Bloom faced a social media backlash after posting a controversial photo of his four-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, on the beach.

The Lord of the Rings star, 48, initially shared the image showing Daisy without clothes while he carried her into the ocean – before quickly deleting it and re-uploading it with a heart emoji covering her.

The snapshot was part of a sweet carousel celebrating father-daughter beach time, including images of Daisy running with a kite and playing in the sand with a friend.

Still, fans were quick to call out the post as “inappropriate.”

On Reddit, one user wrote:

“Some parents are such idiots. They don’t post this child’s face on social media, so they do understand privacy but then post a naked pic. Make it make sense.”

Another added:

“You have to be so out of touch to think it’s okay to post a naked photo of your daughter to a huge fanbase.”

Some people defended Bloom

Other critics warned about the potential dangers of sharing such images online, even if unintentional.

However, some defended Bloom, saying the photo was innocent. One wrote:

“She’s four… she’s going swimming with her dad. He covered her butt in the picture. This is normal.”

“Again, she is four. This is not—not—a normal thing… he covered her butt in the picture.

“I used to run around naked until I was almost seen, and a lot of the kids I grew up with did, too.

“It’s innocent, and the fact that people are trying to make it weird? ARE WEIRD AF.”

One person added: “Jeez, my childhood photos would have had loads of stickers over them — bare butts everywhere.”

Why it may be a risk

Sharing children’s lives online — birth announcements, birthday photos, or first steps — has become routine for many parents. It’s hardly just Hollywood parents, or Orlando Bloom, doing it. But if you want to take a closer look and consider expert opinions, there are a few important things to keep in mind.

Harvard Law professor Leah Plunkett, who studies children, family law, and technology, calls this phenomenon “sharenting,” a term for when parents and other trusted adults share kids’ private information online. While seemingly innocent, it can expose children to identity theft, harassment, and a loss of control over their own story as they grow up.

Even something as simple as a birthday photo can reveal a child’s full name, age, and birthdate, information that can be exploited by bad actors. Plunkett points out that social media platforms often give companies and third parties broad rights over uploaded content, meaning a child’s image could end up used in ways parents never intended, such as training facial recognition software or influencing algorithmic decisions about their future.

Parents face difficult choices. Should they post joyful milestones, even if it might compromise privacy? How do you model consent to a child who’s too young to understand digital risks? Plunkett suggests asking yourself: would my child be comfortable with this post when they grow older? Is the information really necessary?

Ultimately, the debate highlights a tension: celebrating your child’s life versus protecting their autonomy and safety. In a world where digital footprints last forever, even small decisions about sharing can have long-term consequences.

Co-parenting and Trudeau rumors

Meanwhile, Orlando’s post comes amid ongoing headlines about Orlando’s ex-fiancée, Katy Perry. The pop star was recently spotted enjoying dinner with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during her Canadian tour, sparking romance rumors.

And in early October, Perry and Trudeau were spotted sharing a kiss aboard the singer’s yacht, the Caravelle, off the coast of Santa Barbara.

Orlando responded with humor, commenting with hand-clap emojis under a satirical Instagram post by The Onion that jokingly suggested he was dining with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Orlando and Katy, who share Daisy, broke up in June, 2025, after a rocky engagement. Despite their split, the pair have been navigating co-parenting while remaining in the public eye.
